A Thought For a Shooters Sunday: A lesson in Photos.
Having received numerous requests, here is the return of “A Shooters Thought For A Sunday” and following the popularity of a recent post once again it’s a “Lesson In Photos”. I am delighted to say that the Young Lady subject of the lesson is my Daughter Lucy, who recently came from England with her elder Sister for a vacation here at Green Acres. Although all our children have grown up with shooting and had taken their first shots in their early years, I never pressed them to

"Smokin Wings"
Green Acres Sportsman's Club, Roberts, Illinois. Have just received some photos, courtesy of our top lady Gun, Diane Goerg, from last Sunday's "Smokin Wings" event. It was a great day with a great group of Guns, just plenty of good fun shooting followed by plenty of home cooked grub, what better way to spend a day. A special mention of our two Lady Guns, Kate Trad & Diane Goerg, who always bring a touch of elegance and loveliness to our days and not to mention they can shoot

What it's truly all about...
Following on with the opening of the grouse shooting season here is one of my favourite videos showing what it's truly all about and also maybe because the gentleman shooting is a past pupil of mine, sit back and enjoy. #KeithCoyle #InternationalShootingSchools

2018 English Open Sporting Clay Champs
Just received the most brilliant news a friend who was a past pupil has just shot a superb round at the 2018 English Open Sporting Clay Champs. shooting a 105/120 putting him in 3rd place. He has out shot Champions Mark Winser, Ed Solomans, the great John Bidwell and my own Essex rival Stuart Clarke. James Hardy, who after only shooting for 3 years has made the top 20 Sporting Clay shots in the UK, is in AA Class, is now sponsored and shoots with great technique and style. I

So why did I miss?
Static target shooting (rifle and pistol) affords the opportunity for the competitor to see the result of the shot, analyse what went wrong and correct any fault. With a shotgun, when you miss a clay target you cannot see the tell tale signs of where the shot went - unless you have a coach at your shoulder to see where your barrels ended up pointing or observes another reason for the miss. Personal self analysis of a missed target is difficult, but you must learn how to achie

“Gadgets & Gizmos!”
I guarantee one of the first questions that a client coming on their first lesson asks me is what chokes and cartridges are the best combination for Sporting Clays? There seems to be a general belief that there is some magic formula—some combination of the two—that can compensate for gaps in their skills and that guarantees they will break enough targets to put them on the winners rostrum. The bottom line is that if you do not have an established method/technique that will co

Three Day Intensive Coaching Program.
Here it is, the first post of the new year and its a great way to start, prior to Christmas week I had the great pleasure to spend time with Mike Graves, a Masterclass Sporting Clay's shot, who came over from Arizona for a 3 day intensive Coaching program. We covered the whole aspect of shooting advanced low Gun techniques incorporating the "Churchill" instinctive method matching Gun movement with the target distance and speed, across a wide variety of targets from 60 yard cr

Stopping your gun!
Stopping your gun! To break a target successfully you must keep your gun moving throughout the whole sequence of the shot, the reason many shooters, particularly novices, stop their gun is because they suddenly look at the end of the barrels at the point of pulling the trigger, and take their focus off the target. This is known as “Making Sure” or “Checking Your Swing” and of course should be avoided, as soon as you look at the end of the barrel and the bead, at that vital mo

Practice! Practice! Practice! And More Practice!
Practice! Practice! Practice! And More Practice! Like it or not we only improve our skills, regardless of what they are, with Practice and this especially applies when we are trying something new or different to what we have been previously using and are used to, what we consider is the “Norm”, what in fact, we are comfortable with. It is common during a lesson when I change the way a pupil mounts their gun or alter their stance that they turn and say “That Feels Very Odd”, a
