A very rewarding job all round!
It's been a beautiful day here in Roberts, Illinois and it got off to a brilliant start for me, as my great friend and colleague Mark Hinkle brought along two Guns he had worked on and altered for friend and Pupil Eric Kruger. The guns in the picture are a Citori 16 g and a 20 g, they both originally had the "Pointed Toe" to the base of the butt plate, so commonly found on "Field Guns" ,which is completely wrong for shooting "Upland" style birds and both had the overweight fo

Just over a week ago I managed to get my Wife, Brenda, up to GA for a mornings Coaching and combined this with a photo shoot for Chris Rudd, who is currently rebuilding the GA Club website. Getting good teaching photos has always been difficult, as they should of course be good for promotion but most importantly make sure it shows the Pupil using proper technique, well Chris has done a top job and got these spot on!!! None of the photos were staged we just got on with the les

Novice Gun to Semi Genius in one mighty leap
This Thursday & Friday I have had the great pleasure of working and being with Zerif Karwadya, who came as a guest on yesterday's Corporate Grand Battue British Style Driven shoot.
Now our rules do not permit complete Novice shooters to take part on a live shoot, however Zeriff agreed to have a two hour lesson with me on the Thursday and then I would Coach / MInd him in the field on Friday's shoot.
So the job was to go from Novice Gun to Semi Genius in one mighty leap and

Hard to believe it was 11 years ago today that I had just Captained the last shoot day of the season at the wonderful 4,000 acre "Dunira Estate", in Comrie Perthshire. It was the culmination of some 5 months work, when I had been appointed as acting Estate Manager with the task of commercialising the Estates Shooting prior to its sale. It was one of the most demanding yet most rewarding tasks I have undertaken, with the help of the brilliant keeper, "Big" Doug Stewart, the de

Do you invest in pre-season Shooting Instruction?
Well the US Wing Shooting Season is about to kick off, so let's take a look a what the average hunter has spent and will be spending: 1. Having my Dog professionally trained circa $3/4,000 2. My favourite hunting Gun circa $1000 to say $3,000 3. Hunt Gear & Apparel circa $1000 all in 4. Cartridges and Fuel to and from hunts circa $1,000 So shall we say for example an average of $8,000, which is a fair amount of hard earned cash. Oh! sorry forgot to add: 5. Having preseason Sh
